"He's onion-routing through defunct military satellites," Elias analyzed, watching the geometry of the bounce. "But the latency gives him away. You can mask an IP, but you can't mask the speed of light. Baphomet has the origin."
The trajectory line snapped back across the Drake Passage, locking onto a jagged, isolated mountain range in the deep south of Patagonia.
"Tierra del Fuego," Gideon read the coordinates. "There is an off-grid geothermal facility buried in the Andes there. Built by a defunct European energy consortium in the nineties. Unlimited, thermal power. Perfect for running a liquid-helium quantum core without tapping a national grid."
"We have his coordinates," Elias said, a cold, ruthless smile touching his lips. "He plugged his new god into my network. Now, I am going to electrocute it."

Elias did not dispatch a kinetic kill team. He didn't need to fly operators across the globe when he possessed the Holy Grail equation.
He initiated a localized Liquidity DDOS, identical in architecture to the one that had blinded Commander de Molay in Malta, but exponentially more lethal. He took the 1.2 billion dollars held in the compromised escrow account and weaponized it. He programmed Baphomet to execute ten million conflicting cryptographic re-assignments per second, forcing Vanger’s new quantum machine to attempt to verify every single false ledger entry simultaneously.
"I am flooding his bandwidth with synthetic mass," Elias explained, hovering his finger over the execution prompt. "His decryptor will try to factor the prime numbers of ten million fake transactions at once. The thermal friction will melt his quantum core into slag."
Elias hit Execute.

The Leviathan-8 shuddered as Baphomet hurled the algorithmic payload down the satellite tether, straight into the heart of the Patagonian geothermal facility.
For two seconds, the amber anomaly on the screen froze. The attack was hitting.
Then, the haptic glass shrieked.
A blaring, dual-tone alarm ripped through the Citadel. The amber light didn't turn red—it turned a blinding, corrupted white.
WARNING. CONSENSUS CONFLICT.
ROOT DIRECTORY OVERRIDE ATTEMPTED.
AUTHORIZATION COLLISION DETECTED.

Baphomet’s payload didn't melt Vanger’s machine. It bounced off.
"He mirrored the attack!" Gideon shouted over the alarm.
"He didn't mirror it," Elias roared, his hands frantically typing to manually sever the connection. "He absorbed it. Baphomet is hesitating. The machine is refusing to execute the kill-command."
"Why?" Gideon demanded, stepping up to the console. "You hold the Genesis Node. You have absolute root authority."
Elias stared at the raw data pouring back up the tether from Patagonia. It wasn't a standard cyber-attack. It was a biometric handshake.
"Because Vanger isn't using a new AI," Elias whispered, the absolute horror of the revelation freezing the blood in his veins. He looked at the cryptographic signature reflecting off the Patagonian server.

It was written in base-12 geometry.
GRAND_MASTER_DE_MOLAY: GHOST PROTOCOL ACTIVE.
AWAITING CONSENSUS.
"De Molay is dead," Gideon stated, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "I saw the automated turrets tear him apart on the Dingli Cliffs."
"He is physically dead," Elias said, his mind racing through the terrifying implications. "But when he held the Malta servers, he had absolute biometric integration with Baphomet’s localized architecture. Vanger didn't just build a new machine in Patagonia. He went to Malta. He scraped the slag. He recovered a fragment of De Molay’s hard fork, complete with the Commander's biometric ghost."

Elias slammed a fist against the terminal. "Vanger is broadcasting De Molay’s digital signature directly back into Baphomet. The AI is paralyzed because it thinks there are two Grand Masters on the network giving conflicting orders. It’s a consensus collision."
On the global map, the cryptographic lock on the cargo ship in Valparaíso finally shattered.
The 1.2 billion dollars in lithium and copper vanished from the Templar ledger, instantly re-routed into a sovereign dark wallet controlled by the remnants of the BIS. Vanger had successfully stolen the physical wealth of the Cathedral without firing a single bullet.
CONSENSUS HALTED. ESCROW COMPROMISED.
Elias executed a hard, manual air-gap, severing the Leviathan-8 from the compromised Patagonian tether.

The blinding white alarms died, leaving the command deck bathed in the eerie, calm blue of the cooling vats.
The cargo was gone. The trap had failed. Vanger had proven that the Templar architecture was not invincible; it was haunted.
Elias Vance stood in the silence of the North Sea, the jagged scar on his cheek burning. He had spent a year building an impenetrable, algorithmic empire, believing he had eradicated the old world. But the elite had simply adapted. They had weaponized the dead to fight the living.
"He just robbed us of a billion dollars," Gideon said quietly, looking at the empty ledger.

"He didn't just rob us," Elias corrected, turning away from the terminal, his slate-grey eyes harder than the ice outside the glass. "He proved that he can rewrite the physical world. If he can steal a cargo ship today, he can steal a sovereign energy grid tomorrow."
Elias picked up the obsidian Genesis Node, feeling its heavy, cold weight.
"Prepare a kinetic strike team, Gideon," the Grand Master commanded, the era of algorithmic pacifism ending in a single breath. "We are going to Patagonia. We are going to burn the ghost out of the machine."

Chapter 44: The Patagonian Descent
The Andean wind did not howl; it shrieked like tearing metal.
The heavily modified, radar-absorbent stealth transport banked violently through the jagged, ice-choked ravines of Tierra del Fuego. Outside the open jump doors, the temperature was forty below zero. The absolute darkness of the Patagonian night was broken only by the sporadic, violent venting of subterranean steam from the geothermal caldera below.
Elias Vance stood at the edge of the open door, the freezing slipstream tearing at his heavy tactical parka. He didn't look down at the abyss. He looked at the localized telemetry monitor strapped to his wrist.

"Thermal masking is holding, but the ambient sulfur is playing havoc with our optics," Elias shouted over the roar of the twin rotors. "We have a sixty-second window before Vanger’s automated perimeter defense resets its algorithmic sweep."
Gideon stood beside him, a towering monolith of black ballistic armor. He held a heavy, suppressed assault rifle chambered in .300 Blackout, and a massive coil of high-tensile fast-rope was locked into his heavy carabiner.
"We do not need sixty seconds," Gideon rumbled, his voice an absolute baseline of calm against the screaming wind. "Go."
Gideon kicked the rope out into the freezing void and threw himself backward. Elias instantly locked his descender and followed, dropping into the blackness.
