In their place, the Knights Templar ran a brutal but flawlessly fair physical economy. If a nation produced actual value—grain, steel, energy, labor—Baphomet provided instant, frictionless liquidity. If a hedge fund tried to naked-short a sovereign bond to manufacture a crisis, the Grail of Liquidity simply inverted the math, trapping their capital and vaporizing them in milliseconds.

It was a perfect, unyielding algorithmic dictatorship.

"The transition was violent, but the volatility index has flatlined," Elias murmured, tracing the base-12 geometry on the glass. "For the first time in a century, the market is an accurate reflection of reality."

"Reality is an uncomfortable state for those who used to own the illusion," Gideon rumbled, pulling a ruggedized, encrypted tablet from his tactical webbing. He handed it to the Grand Master.

Elias took the tablet. The screen displayed a deep-web packet trace, isolated by Baphomet’s localized defense algorithms.

"We intercepted a fragmented data burst bouncing between three unregistered satellite relays over the Southern Hemisphere," Gideon explained, his voice dropping to a low, lethal register. "It wasn't a standard dark-web transaction. It was heavily encrypted using a recursive quantum cipher. It looks remarkably similar to the architecture Henrik Vanger was building in Basel."

Elias stared at the code. Vanger had survived the EMP and the helium blast in the BIS vault. The Director-General had been extracted by Swiss federal police and had promptly vanished into the geopolitical shadows, taking the surviving architects of Prometheus with him.

"They are building a new machine," Elias whispered, a cold, familiar adrenaline cutting through the absolute calm of the Citadel.

"They don't have the fiat printing press anymore," Gideon pointed out. "We control the clearinghouses."

"They don't need a printing press if they can build a quantum decryptor capable of fracturing the Hashashin’s blockchain," Elias analyzed, his mind immediately running the macro-probabilities. "Vanger understands that he can't fight us in the open market anymore. He is trying to build a skeleton key. He wants to pick the lock on the Cathedral."

"I can assemble a kinetic team," Gideon offered, his hand instinctively resting on the grip of his sidearm. "We can triangulate the satellite relays. Burn them out before they compile the core."

Elias looked out through the reinforced glass at the violent, freezing expanse of the North Sea. He thought about Alistair, dying on the marble floor in Monaco to protect a static, defensive floor. He thought about De Molay, blown to pieces on the Dingli Cliffs because he couldn't adapt his leverage to the changing geometry.

Elias placed the tablet down next to the glowing Genesis Node.

"No," Elias said softly, a terrifying, absolute smile touching the corners of his mouth. "Stand the kinetic teams down, Gideon."

Gideon frowned. "Grand Master, if they complete a machine capable of breaking the escrow encryption—"

"If they complete the machine, they will have to test it," Elias interrupted, his eyes burning with the cold fire of the apex predator. "They will have to connect it to the global network. And the exact millisecond they do, they will expose their localized IP address, their margin reserves, and their physical location."

Elias turned back to the haptic glass, placing his hand over the global map.

"We are not going to hunt them in the dark, Gideon. We are going to let them spend billions in hidden capital to build their new god. We are going to let them plug it in. And then, I am going to use the Holy Grail equation to reach through the network, seize their machine, and liquidate their entire existence."

Elias Vance, the Canary Wharf quant who had stolen the world, looked at the cascading green data of his empire.

"Let them build it," the Grand Master whispered into the humming silence of the Citadel. "The Cathedral is always hungry."

Chapter 43:

The Hashashin proxy node in Santiago did not go offline; it hallucinated.

On the sprawling, darkened command deck of the Leviathan-8, the global supply chain map was a flawless, slow-moving lattice of bioluminescent green. It was 0200 hours, and the North Sea was hurling freezing rain against the reinforced blast glass in a deafening, rhythmic assault.

Elias Vance stood before the haptic terminal, his slate-grey eyes locked on a single, pulsing amber anomaly off the coast of Chile.

"Report," Elias commanded, his voice slicing through the ambient roar of the storm and the liquid-cooling pumps.

Gideon emerged from the shadows of the armory racks, a steaming mug of black coffee in his massive hand. He looked at the terminal.

"It’s a Panamanian-flagged ultra-large crude carrier leaving Valparaíso," Gideon rumbled, reading the telemetry. "Three million barrels of unrefined lithium brine and copper ore bound for Shanghai. Estimated value, 1.2 billion dollars. Baphomet authorized the cryptographic escrow twenty minutes ago to clear the port departure."

"The physical ship is moving," Elias said, his fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard, bringing up the raw blockchain ledger of the transaction. "But the escrow signature just inverted. Someone is factoring the prime numbers of our cryptographic lock in real-time."

Elias expanded the code on the central 8K display. It was a terrifying sight. The impenetrable, decentralized security of the Hashashin blockchain was actively unraveling, unspooling like a thread caught in a turbine.

"They are using a quantum state to break the encryption," Elias whispered, the icy realization settling over the command deck. "They aren't trying to short a currency, Gideon. They are rewriting the ledger. They are transferring the digital ownership of that cargo ship to a dark wallet while the physical vessel is still in the water."

"Vanger," Gideon stated, setting his coffee down, his massive frame instantly tensing into a kinetic stance. "The ghost packet we intercepted last year. He finished the machine."

Elias didn't blink. The trap he had set twelve months ago was finally springing. Vanger, the exiled Director-General of the BIS, had spent a year hiding in the global shadows, spending whatever black-budget capital he had salvaged to build a quantum decryptor capable of picking the lock on the Templar economy.

Now, he was testing the key.

"Trace the intrusion," Elias commanded Baphomet, slapping his scarred palm against the Genesis Node.

The quantum AI surged to life, the chilled mineral oil beneath the glass floor boiling as the server blades spiked to maximum RPM. Baphomet didn't just block the intrusion; it let the hostile algorithm penetrate the outer layers of the escrow file, using the hostile connection as a physical tether to track the IP backward through the dark web.

The amber trajectory line on the map bounced frantically.
