"Can you get me to the radome, Gideon?"

"I can get you to the blast doors," Gideon replied, chambering a round. "But once we breach the perimeter, De Molay’s kinetic teams will swarm. You will have exactly two minutes to inject the Genesis Node into the routing hub before they overwhelm us."

"Two minutes in high-frequency trading is an eternity," Elias said, picking up the heavy obsidian block and slipping it into his inner pocket.

The Kyrie surged forward, her ancient diesel engines pushing the trawler through the black, rolling swells of the Mediterranean. Elias walked out onto the aft deck, the salt spray violently stinging his face. Ahead of them, hidden in the pitch-black horizon, the cliffs of Malta awaited. The algorithmic war was over. The physical margin call was due.

Chapter 31: The Maltese Bottleneck

The Mediterranean Sea at 0300 hours was a pitch-black void, an abyss that absorbed all light and sound. The rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) cut through the rolling swells with its outboard motor muffled to a dull, underwater throb.

Elias Vance sat in the bow, the freezing salt spray soaking through his tactical jacket. The towering silhouette of the Dingli Cliffs loomed ahead, a sheer, vertical wall of jagged limestone rising three hundred feet straight out of the churning water. At the apex of the cliff, barely visible against the starless sky, was the smooth, pale dome of the NATO radome. It was the physical bottleneck of Commander de Molay’s rogue empire.

Behind Elias, Gideon stood perfectly balanced against the violent pitch and yaw of the small boat. The giant tactical chief was fully geared in matte-black maritime assault armor. He held a suppressed pneumatic grapnel launcher across his chest.

"Two minutes to the drop," Gideon’s voice crackled through Elias’s earpiece, barely audible over the wind. "The thermal sentry grids sweep the cliff face in randomized algorithmic patterns. If we are caught in the open during a sweep, automated turrets will vaporize us before we can unclip from the ropes."

"Then we climb faster than the algorithm," Elias said, his teeth chattering from the cold. He patted the heavy obsidian Genesis Node secured in his inner pocket. He was exhausted, running on the absolute fumes of his adrenaline reserves, but the mathematics of the endgame were razor-sharp in his mind.

The RHIB slowed, drifting silently into the churning foam at the base of the cliffs.

Gideon raised the pneumatic launcher. A muffled thwump echoed over the crashing waves, followed by the hiss of a high-tensile carbon-fiber line rocketing upward into the darkness. The titanium grappling hook bit into the limestone three hundred feet above them with a dull clink.

Gideon tested the line, hauling his massive weight against it to ensure the anchor held. He clipped his ascender to the rope. "You follow my exact pace. Do not look down. Do not look up. Just pull."

Elias locked his mechanical ascender onto the line. He took a deep breath, tasting salt and diesel exhaust, and began to climb.

The ascent was a brutal, agonizing exercise in kinetic endurance. Elias’s muscles, already pushed past their breaking point in the crypts of Chartres and the subterranean vault in Monaco, screamed in protest with every upward haul. The limestone was slick with sea mist, offering no footholds. He was entirely dependent on the mechanical grip of the ascender and the raw strength of his shoulders.

"Hold," Gideon hissed through the earpiece.

Elias froze, dangling two hundred feet above the crushing waves.

A pale, invisible beam of thermal-imaging light swept across the cliff face, ten feet above their heads. It was a silent, sweeping scythe. Elias held his breath, pressing his body flat against the freezing stone, praying the ambient temperature of the wet limestone masked his thermal signature.

The sweep passed.

"Go," Gideon commanded.

They hauled themselves over the jagged lip of the cliff just as the digital clock on Elias’s wrist ticked to 03:56. Four minutes to the Asian session close. Four minutes until the Liquidity DDOS.

The wind howled across the barren plateau. Fifty yards away, the massive, geodesic dome of the radome sat bathed in a pale, sterile security light. Thick bundles of armored fiber-optic cables ran like black veins from the base of the dome directly into the reinforced concrete of the subterranean fortress below. The hum of the massive satellite uplink was a deep, subsonic vibration that Elias could feel in the soles of his boots.

Between them and the dome was a flat expanse of concrete, patrolled by two pairs of heavily armed kinetic operators wearing the insignia of the Malta faction.

"Twelve men total," Gideon whispered, unholstering his custom-machined submachine gun. "Four on the surface, eight inside the radome operating the physical security of the uplink. I will clear the surface. You sprint for the primary maintenance hatch at the base of the dome. You must bypass the physical lock before you can interface the Node."

"03:58," Elias said, drawing his suppressed 9mm. "If we trip the alarm before the clock hits four, Baphomet’s bandwidth will still be clear. The automated turrets will shred us."

"We do not trip the alarm," Gideon stated with terrifying absolute certainty.

The tactical chief moved. He didn't run; he glided across the concrete with a silent, predatory grace that defied his massive size. He approached the first pair of guards from their blind spot, the howling wind covering the sound of his boots.

In a single, fluid motion, Gideon wrapped his massive forearm around the throat of the first guard, simultaneously bringing his suppressed weapon up to fire a single, muffled shot into the back of the second guard’s helmet. He lowered the choked guard to the ground, snapping his neck with a brutal, silent twist.

Two down. Ten seconds.
