Lom was the first to break. "Lom hates being his own bank! Lom just wants to trade!"

Lom rushed forward, cryptographically signing over his three Bit-Stones to Ugg's master address. Ugg smiled, took out a brush, and painted a bright, colorful "3" next to Lom's name on the polished wall.

"Wow," Lom whispered, touching the paint. "The UI is incredible."

Within hours, the entire valley was funneling their hard-mined Bit-Stones into FTU. The ease of use was intoxicating. You didn't need to hold a leaf. You didn't need a Seed Phrase. You just looked at Ugg's beautiful wall, and Ugg told you how rich you were.

Grug, however, was sitting on his boulder, furiously checking the decentralized Rock-Chain on his white leaf.

Thok walked up, carrying a heavy pickaxe. "Thok just sent all Thok's mined coins to Ugg. The wall is very pretty. Much better than heavy rocks."

"Thok, you absolute fool," Grug hissed, pointing at the public ledger. "Look at the blockchain! Everyone is sending their Bit-Stones to Ugg's wallet. But look at where they go after they hit Ugg's wallet."

Thok squinted at the leaf. "They... go to another cave?"

"Exactly!" Grug jumped off the boulder. "I'm going to FTU. Ugg is up to his old tricks."

Grug marched into the FTU cave. It was bustling. Retail traders were sipping berry smoothies, staring at the polished wall, high-fiving over their painted balances.

Grug pushed past them and barged into Ugg’s VIP back office.

Ugg was sitting on a massive pile of furs, wearing his cargo shorts, playing a primitive game that involved throwing rocks into a basket while simultaneously answering three different carrier pigeons.

"Ugg," Grug demanded. "Where are the customer deposits?"

Ugg didn't look away from his rock-basket game. "In cold storage, Grug. Very safe. Backed one-to-one."

"You're lying," Grug said. "The blockchain is public, Ugg. I can see the transactions. The moment a customer deposits a Bit-Stone, you route it out the back door to a completely unverified address. What is 'Alameda Rocks'?"

Ugg paused. He tossed a rock into the basket and finally looked at Grug.

"Alameda Rocks is my proprietary trading firm," Ugg said softly, adopting a tone of deep, philosophical benevolence. "You see, Grug, I am an Effective Altruist."

"A what?"

"I want to do the most good for the valley," Ugg explained, his eyes wide and innocent. "To do the most good, I must make the most money. And to make the most money, I have to take the idle customer deposits sitting in my vault and use them to make highly leveraged, degenerate trades on the open market. It's for the greater good."

"You are stealing customer funds!" Grug shouted. "That is wire fraud!"

"It's not stealing!" Ugg countered defensively. "It's a temporary re-allocation of liquidity! The wall says they have the funds. So they have the funds!"

Grug lunged past Ugg and ripped aside a heavy mammoth-hide curtain at the back of the office.

There, in a dark, humid sub-cave, sat Borg.

Borg was surrounded by fifty fat-torch charts, his eyes bloodshot, his hair falling out in clumps. He was frantically executing trades on a dozen different ledgers.

"Borg?!" Grug gasped. "You're running Alameda Rocks?!"

"Borg is a quantitative genius!" Borg shrieked, not looking away from his charts. "Ugg gave Borg the customer Bit-Stones! Borg took them, swapped them for st-Pelts, leveraged them ten-to-one, and went long on the migration patterns of the Northern Caribou! We are printing yield!"

"Borg, you lost your own Seed Phrase to a goat last week!" Grug yelled. "You are the worst trader in the valley! Why would Ugg give you the customer deposits?!"

"Because Borg asks no questions and takes maximum risk!" Borg laughed maniacally.

Grug turned back to Ugg, horrified. "Ugg, you have built a Doomsday Machine. If Borg's Caribou trade goes south, you lose the customer deposits. If the customers ask for their Bit-Stones back, you won't have them. The wall is a lie."

Ugg scoffed, tossing another rock into his basket. "You're missing the genius of the ecosystem, Grug. Even if Borg loses the Bit-Stones, the FTU balance sheet is perfectly solvent. Because I invented my own token."

Ugg held up a small, perfectly square piece of polished turquoise.

"I call it the FTU-Token," Ugg grinned. "I created ten million of them out of thin air this morning. I sold exactly one of them to my cousin for fifty Bit-Stones. Therefore, the market cap of my remaining tokens is five hundred million Bit-Stones. My balance sheet is impenetrable."

Grug’s brain felt like it was bleeding. Ugg was using highly illiquid, completely fabricated tokens to collateralize the massive hole Borg was blowing in the customer deposits. It was a flywheel of pure, unadulterated fraud.

"You're going to destroy the entire crypto economy," Grug whispered.

"I'm going to be on the cover of Valley Forbes," Ugg corrected him, clicking his pebbles together. "Now get out, Grug. The adults are building the future."

Grug left the cave, his stomach churning. He knew he couldn't convince the retail crowd to leave. The UI was too good, the smoothies were too sweet, and Ugg’s frizzy hair was too disarming.

To pop the bubble, Grug wouldn't need an argument. He would need a catalyst. He needed to find the one trader in the valley big enough, and ruthless enough, to call Ugg's bluff.

Part 46: The Binance Cave and the Collapse

Grug needed a whale to slay a giant.

He left the chaotic, smoothie-fueled euphoria of the FTU exchange and crossed the river to the far side of Cave Street. Here, nestled in a massive, hyper-efficient, starkly lit cavern glowing with yellow torches, sat the B-Cave.

The B-Cave was the largest crypto exchange in the valley. It wasn’t cozy. It didn't have beanbag chairs or berry smoothies. It was an absolute machine of execution, run by a ruthless, highly optimized trader named Zang.

Zang wore tight black furs, spoke in short, clipped sentences, and never slept. While Ugg relied on frizzy-haired charm and "Effective Altruism," Zang relied on brutal liquidity.

Grug walked up to Zang, who was currently executing a thousand trades a minute with a perfectly sharpened piece of flint.

"Zang," Grug said, slapping his white leaf—the public Rock-Chain ledger—onto Zang's trading rock. "You need to look at Ugg’s wallet."

Zang didn't look up. "Zang is busy. Market is pumping. Zang is building."

"Look at the data," Grug insisted. "You hold a massive amount of Ugg’s proprietary FTU-Tokens, right? The little turquoise rocks?"

"Yes," Zang nodded efficiently. "Ugg gave Zang a massive bag of turquoise rocks last year when Zang helped Ugg start his exchange. Zang holds them on the balance sheet. They are worth millions of Bit-Stones. Why?"
