Valjean stopped breathing. The words hit him with the devastating force of a federal raid.

It wasn't Javert who had breached the fortress. It wasn't the SEC or a corporate data-broker. It was a young man. A boy from the grid.

Valjean crushed the letter in his fist, his heart breaking into a thousand jagged pieces. He had sacrificed his empire, his freedom, and his identity to keep her safe from the world. He had built an unhackable wall. But he had forgotten the one variable no architect could ever code against: human nature. She was growing up, and in her innocence, she was opening the backdoor to the very system he had spent ten years running from.

If a boy named Marius knew where they were, it meant they had a physical footprint. If they had a footprint, the hounds would find it.

Valjean looked up at the townhouse, seeing the silhouette of Cosette moving in her bedroom window. A profound, tragic resolve hardened his features.

"The sanctuary is compromised," Valjean whispered to the empty garden, his voice thick with sorrow. "We have to log off. Tonight."

He pocketed the crushed letter and walked back to the house to pack their analog bags. The ghost was preparing to vanish one last time, completely unaware that the boy who had found his daughter was about to launch the greatest financial war the city had ever seen.

Chapter 33: The Barricade of Capital

At 09:15 AM, the back room of the Musain cyber-cafe was a crucible of raw, kinetic tension. The air filtration system had failed hours ago, leaving the room heavy with the scent of overheated servers, stale energy drinks, and sweat. Dozens of retail traders sat shoulder-to-shoulder at scavenged terminals, their eyes locked on the pre-market tape for Corinthe Technologies.

Marius pushed through the heavy steel door, shedding his rain-soaked coat. He walked directly to the primary terminal where Enjolras stood like a statue of marble, watching the bid-ask spread flicker.

"My grandfather kept his liquidity," Marius said quietly, the exhaustion evident in his voice. "We are short the two million for the final options sweep. The gamma ramp has a gap."

Grantaire, nursing a lukewarm coffee spiked with bourbon, laughed bitterly from the corner. "The revolution runs out of fiat before the opening bell. Classic."

Enjolras did not blink. He did not look away from the screens.

"Capital is just a multiplier, Pontmercy," Enjolras said, his voice ringing with absolute, terrifying clarity. "It is not the underlying asset. The asset is conviction. If we cannot buy the final strike price, we will simply force the market makers to bridge the gap for us. We do not need a billionaire’s money to tear down his house."

Enjolras turned to face the room. The frantic typing slowed. The exhausted day-traders, the indebted gig-workers, the victims of a thousand rigged algorithmic liquidations looked up at their leader.

"In fourteen minutes, the market opens," Enjolras declared, his voice cutting through the hum of the servers. "The legacy funds will deploy everything they have. They will spoof the order books. They will route our buys through the dark pools to suppress the price, and they will execute short-ladder attacks to trigger your stop-losses. They expect you to panic. They expect you to sell."

Enjolras slammed his fist onto the table, shaking the monitors.

"Remove your stop-losses!" he roared. "Cancel your sell limits! Today, we do not trade. We hold. We buy the lit exchanges, we register the shares, and we build a wall of infinite risk. When the bell rings, you do not stop buying the ask until Corinthe hits one hundred and forty-two dollars and fifty cents. That is the prime broker margin threshold. We push the price into that tripwire, and the machines will execute our enemies for us."

At precisely 09:30:00 AM, the opening bell chimed across the financial grid.

The ABC Forum struck with the synchronized fury of a digital army.

"Initiating the options sweep!" Courfeyrac shouted, his fingers flying across his mechanical keyboard. "Routing all volume through IEX! Bypassing Citadel! Bypassing Virtu!"

Millions of micro-transactions flooded the lit exchange. Retail traders from basements, transit trains, and warehouse floors across the globe slammed the 'Buy' button simultaneously. They purchased thousands of short-dated, out-of-the-money call options.

The automated market makers, algorithms designed to instantly provide liquidity, suddenly found themselves naked on the contracts. To remain delta-neutral, the market-maker AI had to immediately hedge its risk by purchasing physical shares of Corinthe on the open market.

"They’re hedging!" Marius yelled, watching the Level 2 order book light up like a supernova. "The market makers are buying the float!"

The feedback loop—the gamma squeeze—violently ignited.

Corinthe’s stock price erupted. It gapped up from $40 to $65 in the first three minutes of trading.

The institutional AI panicked. Across the city in the glass towers, quantitative algorithms recognized the anomaly and initiated aggressive counter-measures. Massive blocks of synthetic short shares were dumped onto the tape to crush the momentum.

"Incoming ladder attack!" Grantaire shouted, spilling his coffee as the price violently spiked down to $52. "They’re trying to trigger a panic sell-off! Volume is two million shares in ten seconds!"

"Hold the line!" Enjolras roared, his eyes blazing. "Eat the synthetic shares! Buy them and lock them away!"
