"Oh, yes," Tom said gruffly, not drinking. His eyes were darting around the property, analyzing the massive, industrial HVAC units required to cool Gatsby’s server arrays. "You were at the Plaza. You’re the fellow who throws those decentralized boiler room parties."

"I know your wife," Gatsby added, his voice dropping slightly, the words carrying the weight of a hidden limit order waiting to be triggered.

Tom’s head snapped toward him. The institutional arrogance faltered for a microsecond, replaced by a sharp, calculating glare. "Is that so?"

Tom didn't care about the romance; he cared about the capital exposure. If this offshore scalper had access to Daisy, he had potential access to the Buchanan portfolio's internal metrics.

"Mr. Gatz," Sloane drawled, looking at the massive glass walls of the trading floor with a sneer of legacy contempt. "They say you execute fifty-lot market orders during the London open with a zero-pip spread. That’s a fascinating claim for a retail trader."

"I use IC Markets, Mr. Sloane," Gatsby replied effortlessly. "True ECN. I don't rely on institutional dark pools to find my liquidity. I just read the raw price action on the fifteen-minute chart."

Tom barked a harsh, cynical laugh. "Price action. Don't insult my intelligence, Gatz. Nobody gets filled at those levels without latency arbitrage. You’re spoofing the order book. You’re placing phantom liquidity to bait the algorithms, and you’re front-running the execution. It’s a parlor trick. It’s toxic order flow, and the regulators are going to shut your servers down the moment they catch the packet loss."

Gatsby’s smile didn't waver, but his eyes went dead and cold—the look of a man watching a trade move into a massive, unrealized profit while his opponent stubbornly refused to close their losing position.

"My execution is flawless, Tom. Perhaps your legacy systems are just suffering from archaic latency. It happens when you rely on inherited infrastructure instead of building your own edge."

The tension in the garden spiked, the social spread widening to an impossible degree. The woman with Sloane stood up abruptly, signaling that the legacy money had seen enough. They offered a hollow, entirely fake invitation for Gatsby to join them for an institutional dinner in the city. Gatsby, misreading the sarcastic protocol of old money, actually went inside to grab his coat, believing he had been granted access to their network.

Before Gatsby could return, Tom turned to Sloane. "Let's get out of here. My God, I believe the man is actually coming. Doesn't he realize she doesn't want him there?"

Tom looked back at the humming, liquid-cooled fortress of Gatsby’s mansion. "I'll be damned if I see how he got within a mile of Daisy," Tom muttered, his voice dripping with venom. "I’m going to put my best quants on this. I’m going to pull every packet of data, every API log, every offshore dark pool connection he has. I’m going to find out exactly who this nobody is, and I’m going to liquidate his edge permanently."

They drove away in their heavy coupe, leaving Gatsby standing on his porch with his coat, watching the legacy capital retreat behind its impenetrable moats. The battle lines were drawn. The macroeconomic trend was shifting, and Tom Buchanan was preparing a catastrophic short-squeeze aimed directly at the golden boy of West Egg.

Chapter 27: The Lavish Party Daisy Hated

Tom and Daisy Buchanan arrived at Gatsby’s estate on a Saturday night, stepping into a localized environment where the decentralized crypto exchanges were running at maximum, unregulated leverage. The tier-one forex markets were closed for the weekend, but Gatsby’s server farm never slept, and neither did the desperate retail crowd that flocked to his lawns.

Daisy stood at the edge of the blue-lit server hall, her eyes wide with a profound, visceral distress. She was a creature of East Egg, raised in the sterile, quiet vaults of legacy capital where wealth was an invisible, polite force that simply yielded dividends every quarter. She had never seen the bloody trenches of the active order book.
