"Are you questioning the discipline of the Order, Knight Vance?" Alistair asked, the title sounding less like an honorific and more like a threat. "We are the architects. We build the floor. We do not burn the house down."

"The original nine Knights hid this equation in a crypt for eight hundred years," Elias countered, standing his ground on the dais. "They didn't hide it from the kings of Europe. They hid it from themselves. They knew it was too dangerous to integrate into the central ledger."

The tension on the dais was suffocating, a heavy silence that pressed against Elias’s eardrums despite the roaring data center around them. He was a new recruit, standing in the heart of a mountain, defying the man who controlled trillions of dollars and a private army.

Before Alistair could respond, the heavy steel doors to the command center slid open behind them.

"The young Knight is correct to fear the math, Grand Master."

Elias turned.

Standing in the doorway was a man who looked like he had been carved directly from the alpine granite. He was tall, heavily muscled, and wore a pristine, midnight-black tailored suit that contrasted sharply with the red cross pattee on his lapel. His head was completely shaved, and a pale, jagged scar ran down the side of his neck, disappearing beneath his collar.

But it was his eyes that froze Elias in place. They were the color of slate, dead and devoid of any human warmth.

"Commander de Molay," Alistair said, his voice tightening with a subtle, unmistakable undercurrent of tension. "Your arrival from the Malta command was not on the manifest."

"The Asian session was highly irregular," De Molay replied, stepping into the command center. He completely ignored Elias, walking straight toward the holographic displays mapping the global dark pools. "I watched a newly minted algorithm simulate a panic and then orchestrate a thermonuclear short squeeze. It was a beautiful piece of kinetic engineering. I assumed our new variable had successfully retrieved the Grail."

De Molay finally turned his dead eyes toward Elias, looking at the USB drive still gripped in the young quant’s hand.

"The Order has spent centuries playing defense, Alistair," De Molay said, his voice a low, resonant rumble. "We prop up failing central banks. We absorb the volatility of the Hashashin. We bleed our margin to maintain a fiat hallucination that is inherently corrupt. The time for maintaining the floor is over."

"The mandate of the Order is stability, Commander," Alistair said sharply.

De Molay smiled, a terrifying, razor-thin expression. "The mandate of the Order is control. The Hashashin understand that chaos is the only true reset. If Knight Vance has indeed deciphered the Grail of Liquidity, we do not use it as a shield."

De Molay pointed a massive finger at the 8K map, specifically at the glowing financial heart of New York City.

"We invert the equation. We weaponize the math. We collapse the US Dollar, and from the ashes, we establish a new, absolute global empire. A cathedral built not on debt, but on our absolute ownership of the ashes."

Elias tightened his grip on the USB drive. He had worried about Alistair’s discipline. He hadn't realized that the true threat was already standing inside the vault.

Chapter 18: The Schism

The roar of the fluorinert cooling vats seemed to fade into a dense, oppressive silence. The air in the command center felt suddenly thick, charged with the same static electricity that precedes a violent thunderstorm.

Elias Vance stood between the two most powerful men in the shadow economy, the USB drive in his hand feeling heavier than the Damascus sword he had sworn his oath upon.

"You speak of treason against the Ledger, De Molay," Alistair said, his voice quiet, perfectly level, and utterly devoid of fear. It was the tone of a Grand Master who had already mapped fourteen different tactical responses to this confrontation.

"I speak of evolution, Alistair," Commander de Molay replied, taking a slow, deliberate step closer to the central console. He moved with the heavy, unstoppable momentum of a glacier. "You have grown comfortable in your Swiss mountain, acting as a secret central bank to governments that print worthless paper. You manage the decline. I propose we accelerate it."

De Molay turned his slate-grey eyes back to Elias. "The quant understands the math. He saw it in the crypts of Chartres. He knows that the Grail equation is a weapon, not a shield. Give me the drive, Knight Vance. The Malta command will integrate the inverted algorithms. We will strike the US Dollar during the New York open tomorrow. By Friday, the fiat system will be a historical footnote."

Elias looked at De Molay, analyzing the Commander’s posture, his vocal cadence, the micro-expressions around his scarred neck. This wasn't a sudden coup. This was a calculated, long-term strategic pivot. De Molay had the Malta command—the central hub of the Templar’s physical and kinetic operations. He had likely already secured the loyalty of half the tactical guards currently standing outside the glass walls of the command center.

"If you crash the Dollar," Elias said, his voice surprisingly steady, "you don't just destroy the fiat system. You destroy the global supply chain. You cause famine, hyperinflation, and wars over physical resources. You become the Hashashin."

De Molay’s smile widened, revealing stark white teeth against his pale skin. "The Hashashin cause chaos because they worship the void. They want the world to burn so they can dance in the ashes. We will cause chaos because it is a necessary demolition. You cannot build a new, perfect cathedral until you have completely razed the old one to its foundation."

"The Order protects the foundation," Alistair stated, his right hand moving subtly toward his tailored jacket.

"The Order," De Molay spat, "has grown soft under your leadership, old man. You let a retail trader from Canary Wharf breach our mountain because your AI was too rigid to see him coming."
