"Where?" Bull asked, already reaching for his tactical gear.
Cipher highlighted a trajectory on a holographic map of Europe. "Geneva. Aboard the hyper-magnetic bullet train, the Alpine Express."
Ethan checked his sidearm, sliding a fresh battery into the plasma magazine.
"Alright," Ethan said. "We have no money, no backup, and we're officially enemies of the state. We can't buy our way onto that train, and we can't hack the ticket grid without setting off alarms."
He looked at Bull and Cipher, a dangerous smile touching the corner of his mouth.
"So, we're going to have to catch it while it's moving."

CHAPTER 4: High-Frequency
The Swiss Alps were a jagged silhouette against the pre-dawn sky, biting into the horizon like the teeth of a saw. The wind screamed through the valley at eighty kilometers an hour, but it was nothing compared to the violent sonic boom of the Alpine Express.
A silver streak of hyper-magnetic engineering, the bullet train tore along the elevated viaduct at 450 kilometers per hour.
Three hundred feet above it, Ethan Vance was in freefall.
"Altitude passing four thousand," Bull’s voice crackled through the comms, fighting the roar of the wind. Bull was piloting a stealth-coated halo-glider, having dropped Ethan from the edge of the stratosphere to avoid the Swiss airspace radar net. "You’ve got a ten-second window before the train enters the Mont Blanc tunnel. If you miss the roof, you're hitting the valley floor."
Ethan didn't answer. His heart rate held steady at a cool 60 BPM. Years of grueling endurance training—pounding out daily ten-kilometer circuits in the hills to build his lung capacity and leg strength—prepared him for the extreme G-forces of tactical drops. He pulled his arms in, accelerating his dive.

Below him, the silver roof of the train grew from a thread of light into a massive, rushing blur.
Five seconds.
Ethan deployed the micro-chute. The sudden deceleration wrenched his shoulders, but it was just enough to match the train's forward velocity. He hit the roof of the rear car hard, his boots magnetically locking onto the hyper-alloy hull.
The wind instantly tried to rip him into the void. Ethan dropped flat, engaging the micro-suction pads on his gloves, and began to crawl forward like a mechanized spider.
"I'm on," Ethan shouted over the deafening rush of air. "Cipher, give me the layout."
"The courier is in Car 2, the luxury VIP section," Cipher’s voice came through, relayed from their off-grid setup back in Karlovy Vary. "But you can't just blow the hatch. The VIP cars are sealed with an isolated atmospheric system. If the pressure drops, internal security AI locks down the doors and floods the cabin with neuro-stun gas."
"How do I get in?"

"There’s a maintenance service hatch between Car 2 and Car 3. It's meant for drones, but if you compress your shoulders, you can squeeze through."
Ethan dragged himself against the hurricane-force winds, finally reaching the seam between the cars. He punched a bypass sequence into the manual override panel. The hatch hissed open. He slid inside headfirst, the hatch sealing shut behind him just as the train plunged into the total darkness of the Mont Blanc tunnel.
Instantly, the roaring wind vanished.
Ethan dropped into the corridor of the VIP car. The silence was jarring. It wasn't just quiet; it was an absolute, heavy deadness. He tapped his earpiece, checking if his comms had failed.
"I’m still here, Ethan," Cipher whispered. "The VIP cars use integrated Accuphase reference-grade acoustic dampening arrays. It actively cancels out the mag-lev frequencies and passenger noise. You could fire a plasma round in there, and the next cabin wouldn't hear a thing."

"Good to know," Ethan murmured, drawing his customized, suppressed sidearm. He moved silently down the corridor, the thick carpet absorbing his footsteps.
He paused outside Suite 4. According to Cipher’s thermal tracking, the courier was inside.
Ethan bypassed the biometric lock with a localized EMP pulse from his wrist terminal and slipped inside.
The suite was opulent. The courier, a sharp-featured corporate operative in a tailored suit, was sitting at a glass desk, a metallic briefcase chained to his wrist. He was staring at a holographic terminal, deeply engrossed in a live market feed.
Before the courier could react, Ethan crossed the room in two strides, clamped a hand over the man’s mouth, and drove the butt of his pistol into the operative’s temple. The man slumped over the desk, unconscious.
Ethan grabbed the briefcase. "I have the package. Cipher, how do I open it without frying the quantum key?"

"Plug your terminal into the case's diagnostic port. I need to see the locking mechanism."
Ethan connected his wrist gauntlet. A string of code flashed across his HUD.
"Damn it," Cipher swore. "It's not a standard cryptographic lock. It’s a live financial derivative. A Contract For Difference—a CFD—tied to the real-time stock price of a biotech shell company called OPKO Health."
"A CFD lock?" Ethan frowned. "So the key is the profit margin?"
"Exactly. The briefcase is monitoring an active short position on OPKO. If the position auto-merges with another trade, or if it hits an automated stop-loss limit, the case detects the automated trigger and wipes the physical drive inside. Midas set it up so a machine can't crack it."
"So how do we bypass it?"

You have to ride the volatility," Cipher explained rapidly. "I'm going to spoof a micro-rally on OPKO's stock. The price is going to spike. You have to watch the margin. The second the CFD hits exactly break-even—not a pip over, not a pip under—you have to manually click to close the position. No automation, no auto-close. Human reaction time only."
"Like old-school manual scalping," Ethan said, his eyes locking onto the holographic chart projecting from the briefcase. The candlesticks were ticking furiously.
"Ready?" Cipher asked. "Pumping the liquidity now."

The chart turned violently green. The OPKO stock price surged upward. The margin on the short position rapidly depleted.
- $14,000
- $8,500
- $3,200
The candlestick flickered, fighting the momentum. Ethan’s finger hovered over the manual 'CLOSE POSITION' button on his terminal. The train banked hard through the tunnel, throwing him off balance, but his eyes never left the chart.
- $800
- $150
- $12
The price action stalled. It hovered right on the spread. Ethan felt the rhythm of the market, the invisible push and pull of the algorithm. He anticipated the next micro-tick before it happened.

He jammed his finger onto the glass screen. Click.
POSITION CLOSED. P/L: $0.00.
The briefcase gave a soft, mechanical click. The heavy latches slid open. Inside, resting on a bed of velvet, was a glowing, crystalline drive. The rotating quantum key.
"Got it," Ethan breathed, reaching for the drive.
Suddenly, a voice echoed from the shadowed corner of the VIP suite.
"I wouldn't touch that, Vance. Not unless you want to lose the hand."
Ethan froze. He slowly turned his head.
Sitting in the plush armchair in the corner, legs crossed, a sleek submachine gun resting casually on her lap, was a woman in a dark leather tactical jacket. Her eyes were sharp, calculating, and cold.
"Viper," Ethan said, recognizing the legendary freelance arbitrageur.
"Hello, Ethan," Viper smiled, leveling the barrel at his chest. "I hear the I.M.F. suspended you. Which means that quantum key belongs to whoever takes it first. And my client pays a lot better than yours."
The train burst out of the Mont Blanc tunnel, blinding morning sunlight flooding the cabin, reflecting off the barrel of Viper's gun.

CHAPTER 5: The Arbitrageur
The blinding morning sun bouncing off the snow-capped Alps illuminated the standoff in the VIP cabin. Ethan didn’t flinch, his hand remaining steady over the open briefcase containing the glowing quantum key.
Viper kept the submachine gun leveled flawlessly at his chest.
"You always were a step slow on the draw, Ethan," Viper said, her voice smooth, betraying none of the vibration from the train hurtling forward at 450 kilometers per hour.
"Viper. I thought you retired after the Tokyo exchange collapse," Ethan replied, slowly raising his hands, though his muscles were coiled like springs. "What's an independent arbitrageur doing running interference for Midas?"
"I don't work for ghosts," Viper scoffed. "Midas hired me through a proxy to crack the biometric firewall on this courier. But Midas doesn't leave loose ends. The second I board this train, three of my offshore accounts get drained, and a burn notice hits the dark web with my name on it."
