"Faria?" Edmond asked, stepping forward.

"The market," Faria gasped, wiping a fleck of blood from his lips, "is perfectly efficient in its cruelty. You stumbled into a systemic anomaly, Edmond. P.A. Noirtier. Pierre-Antoine Noirtier."

"You know him?"

"Every central banker in Europe knows him," Faria smiled, a dark, cynical expression. "He is a shadow-banker, a radical who finances proxy wars to destabilize G7 currencies. But more importantly, Edmond... he is a ghost who changed his name decades ago to protect his bloodline."

Faria pointed a trembling finger at Edmond.

"Gérard de Villefort. De Villefort is an adopted aristocratic title. The Deputy Director’s true family name is Noirtier. Pierre-Antoine is his father."

Edmond felt the blood drain from his face. The final piece of the algorithm slotted into place, executing the logic flawlessly.

"If that file went public," Faria continued, his voice dropping to a lethal whisper, "Villefort’s career would be liquidated. He would be investigated for financing his own father’s terrorism. You handed a ruthless regulator the exact weapon needed to destroy his own life. To save himself, he had to erase the data. And because you had seen the data, he had to erase you."

Edmond backed away, hitting the damp wall of the cell. He slid down to the floor, pulling his knees to his chest. The magnitude of the betrayal was staggering. It wasn't a mistake. It wasn't a glitch in the system. It was a perfectly executed, synchronized attack by three men who had utilized his innocence as liquidity for their own ambitions.

"Danglars for the money," Edmond whispered into the darkness. "Fernand for love. Villefort for power."

"A triad of systemic risk," Faria agreed. "Now you have the truth, Edmond. The ledger is fully reconciled. The question is, what will you do with it?"

Edmond looked up. The hollow, desperate kid who had been ready to starve himself to death was gone. In his eyes, the cold, calculating fire of a master quant had ignited.

"I am going to short them," Edmond said, his voice devoid of all warmth. "I am going to short them until they have absolutely nothing left."

Chapter 13:

The silence in Sector D was no longer the deafening void of sensory deprivation; it was the quiet hum of a server farm waiting for execution.

Edmond stood up from the freezing floor of the cell. The frantic, desperate energy of the betrayed boy had evaporated. In its place was a terrifying, absolute stillness. He walked over to the concrete wall where Faria had mapped the global shadow banking system in soot and protein paste. Edmond placed his hand over the node representing Paris—the geopolitical center where Danglars, Fernand, and Villefort were currently building their empires.

"I will not just take their money, Faria," Edmond said, his voice dropping to a low, frictionless cadence. "Taking their capital is a temporary drawdown. They could rebuild. I am going to trigger a systemic liquidity cascade in their lives. I will isolate their assets, poison their portfolios, and destroy their reputations until they are begging for a margin call just to end the pain."

Faria watched him from the shadows, leaning heavily on his rebar cane. "Vengeance is the most volatile asset class in human history, Edmond. It carries infinite downside risk. If you over-lever your soul in this trade, you will become indistinguishable from the men who put you here."

Edmond turned slowly, his hollow eyes catching the dim, orange glow of the parabolic reflector. "I am already dead, Faria. They liquidated Edmond Dantès. Whatever walks out of this black site will be something else entirely. Teach me how to break them."

Faria offered a slow, grim nod. The architect of the central banks had found his ultimate executioner.

"Then we abandon the micro," Faria commanded. "From this night forward, you do not think in pips, spreads, or latencies. You will think in decades, demographics, and sovereign debt cycles."

The curriculum accelerated with brutal intensity. During the day, they dug, their hands blistering and bleeding as they slowly scraped their way through the monolithic foundation toward the seawall. But the physical labor was merely a metronome for the intellectual forge.

Faria began with linguistics. "Algorithms translate data, but they cannot translate nuance," the old man rasped as he etched Mandarin characters into the concrete. "If you want to front-run the People's Bank of China, you must read the policy shifts in their native syntax before the Western Bloomberg terminals translate them. You must understand the cultural fear behind the words."
