Viper’s finger tightened on the trigger. "Arbitrage is about risk-free profit, Ethan. And right now, holding your stock is a toxic asset."

"Then why hasn't your heart rate spiked?" Ethan asked, his voice steady.

Viper blinked.

"You're an adrenaline junkie," Ethan continued, taking a slow step toward her. "When you take a risk, your pupils dilate. Your breathing shifts. But right now, you're perfectly calm. You're not selling out. You're spoofing."

Viper held the standoff for one agonizing second longer. Then, a sharp, genuine smile broke across her face.

She violently pivoted ninety degrees, pointing her wrist-pad not at the Oracle's deck, but at the skiff's primary communications array mounted on the ceiling.

"Cipher!" Viper yelled. "I have a live pipeline to Sterling! He tried to inject a worm into my localized network. I’m isolating the packet and reversing the ping!"

"I see it!" Cipher screamed over the main comms, her keyboard firing like a machine gun. "He bypassed my firewall using an ancient, low-frequency radio carrier wave piggybacking on your personal biometric channel! I’m tracing the origin IP through the handshake protocol!"

In Sterling’s hidden command center, the trap sprang shut. Viper hadn't taken the bribe; she had used the transmission window as a digital grappling hook.

"You always were a short-sighted scalper, Viper," Sterling’s voice snarled in her ear, his cultured tone fracturing with rage. The secure transmission abruptly died in a burst of static.

"Did you get him?" Viper asked, lowering her weapon and tossing the EMP worm file into the ship's digital trash.

"I got a bounce off his primary relay!" Cipher cheered. "It's not a server farm on Earth. The latency gap... the proof-of-liquidity node... it’s all routing off-world. He’s bouncing the Omega Protocol through a private orbital station."

"An orbital station," Ethan said, picking up his plasma pistol and racking the slide. "That explains why the Overwatch can't find him. He’s literally above the law."

"Sterling hosts an exclusive, zero-gravity gala for the world's shadow-elite once a year," the Oracle realized, his eyes widening. "It's a cover for his physical server maintenance. And the gala is happening in exactly forty-eight hours."

Ethan looked at Viper. "One billion Euro-Creds. That's a lot of resistance to push through."

Viper holstered her gun, walking back toward the airlock. "I don't play the short game anymore, Ethan. Let's go crash a party."

CHAPTER 16: The Oracle

The stolen cargo-skiff eventually docked in a rusted, abandoned shipping yard off the coast of Madagascar. The torrential rain hammered against the corrugated tin roof of the warehouse as Ethan, Viper, and the Oracle converted the space into a makeshift forward operating base.

The Oracle sat cross-legged on a stack of wooden pallets, surrounded by a halo of glowing holographic interfaces. "I need to isolate the Yakuza’s ten billion Neo-Yen before their trailing algorithms catch up to our active memory," he muttered, his hands flying across his decentralized cyber-deck.

He pulled a pristine 4TB Samsung 9100 Pro NVMe SSD from the inner pocket of his leather jacket and carefully slotted it into a rugged external USB-four enclosure. He jammed the data cable into his deck. "Initiating a full data migration now. Once the collateral is completely cloned onto this drive, I can air-gap it. Sterling’s Overwatch won't be able to touch the funds until we physically plug this enclosure into his orbital core."

Ethan stood by a shattered window, staring out at the storm. "Talk to me about the target, Oracle. How is Sterling operating a quantum ledger from space without latency tearing his algorithmic models apart?"

The Oracle tapped a key, projecting a massive 3D wireframe of a satellite into the center of the warehouse. It looked less like a space station and more like a floating, hyper-modern cathedral made of glass and solar sails.

"This is The Pinnacle," the Oracle explained. "Sterling's private orbital sanctuary. He isn't fighting latency, Ethan; he's weaponizing it. In the vacuum of space, his servers operate at absolute zero, allowing for frictionless quantum computing. And because he is physically positioned in low-Earth orbit, his data transmissions rain down on the terrestrial markets milliseconds faster than ground-based fiber optics can route them. He holds the ultimate high ground."

"And tomorrow night, he opens the doors," Cipher’s voice echoed from Ethan’s wrist terminal. "Sterling is hosting his annual Sovereign Summit. Three hundred of the world's most powerful shadow-brokers, hedge fund managers, and corrupt regulators are flying up to The Pinnacle for a black-tie gala. It’s the perfect cover for him to execute the Omega Protocol while the elite are distracted."

Viper stepped into the holographic projection, studying the station’s docking ring. "The security is going to be absolute. Biometric scanners, thermal sweeps, and kinetic shields. We can't just shoot our way onto a space station."

"We're not going to shoot our way in," Ethan said, turning away from the window. "We're going to buy our way in. Cipher, can you forge a guest invitation?"

"The guest list is locked on a private blockchain," Cipher replied. "I can't add a new name without triggering an audit. But I can execute a hostile takeover of an existing RSVP."

"Who is the target?" Ethan asked.

A photograph materialized in the hologram—a sharply dressed, arrogant-looking man with silver hair.

"Julian Vane. CEO of a predatory high-frequency trading firm in London," Cipher briefed. "He's notoriously reclusive, highly aggressive, and he just chartered a private sub-orbital shuttle out of French Guiana. I'm routing his shuttle's navigation telemetry into a localized black hole. He's going to experience a 'catastrophic engine failure' on the launchpad. He won't be making the party."

"Which leaves his slot open," Ethan nodded. "I'll go as Vane. Viper, you go as my executive risk manager."

"Sterling knows your face, Ethan," Viper pointed out, crossing her arms. "The second you step off the shuttle, his retinal scanners will flag you."

"Not if I'm wearing a biometric localized-refraction mask," Ethan said. "It uses micro-prisms to slightly alter the physical geometry of my face to optical sensors, while broadcasting Vane’s stolen biometric signature. As long as Sterling doesn't look at me too closely, the system will read me as Julian Vane."

The Oracle finished the data migration, the light on his external enclosure flashing green. He popped the drive out and tossed it to Ethan. Ethan caught the heavy 4TB drive, feeling the weight of ten billion Yakuza Neo-Yen resting in his palm.

"You have the collateral," the Oracle said, standing up and dusting off his jacket. "And you have the quantum routing key. When you get onto The Pinnacle, you need to find the server core. It will be hidden behind a localized liquidity wall. You plug that drive in, flash the ten billion, and the firewall will open for exactly three seconds. That is your window to upload Cipher’s kill-switch and stop the Omega Protocol."

Ethan slipped the drive into a shielded pocket inside his tactical jacket. "What about you, Oracle? Where will you be?"

"Right here," the Oracle smirked, gesturing to his chaotic pile of salvaged tech. "Sterling’s network is going to fight back the second you plug in. You’re going to need a terrestrial anchor to bounce your signal back to Cipher’s server without Sterling’s AI tracing her IP. I’ll hold the latency bridge open. Just don't get liquidated up there."

"Suit up, Viper," Ethan commanded, his voice shifting into the icy, focused tone of a lead tactical trader executing a high-stakes short. "We have a flight to catch."

Twelve hours later, the equatorial sun beat down mercilessly on the private launch complex in French Guiana.

Ethan Vance, now flawlessly disguised in a bespoke, midnight-blue gravity suit tailored to look like haute couture evening wear, walked across the tarmac. Viper walked a half-step behind him, wearing a sleek crimson gown made of ballistic-weave polymer, a diamond-encrusted data-pad clutched in her hand.

They approached the sleek, silver sub-orbital shuttle. A heavily armed protocol droid scanned their approach.

"Name and authorization," the droid droned, a red laser sweeping across Ethan’s face.

Beneath his collar, the micro-prisms in Ethan's refraction mask instantly scattered the light, feeding the droid the exact facial geometry of Julian Vane. Simultaneously, his wrist terminal spoofed Vane’s heartbeat and retinal data.

VIP CONFIRMED. MR. VANE. WELCOME ABOARD.

The boarding ramp hissed open. Ethan and Viper stepped into the luxurious, zero-G capable cabin of the shuttle, taking their seats among a dozen other ultra-wealthy shadow brokers.

As the massive thrusters ignited, pressing Ethan deep into the plush leather of his seat with crushing G-force, he stared out the reinforced viewport at the rapidly shrinking Earth below.

They were crossing the ultimate spread, leaving the atmosphere behind to face Arthur Sterling in the cold, unblinking void of space.

End of Chapter 16.
