I stood a few feet away, holding my untouched champagne, watching him. He didn't acknowledge the crowd. He picked up the delicate porcelain cup resting on the desk, taking a slow, measured sip of the Gyokuro Yutaka green tea.

He looked at the single, massive display. It was the EURUSD pair, stripped down to raw, naked candlesticks on the M15 timeframe. No moving averages. No RSI. No Bollinger Bands. Just price and time, locked in a brutal, zero-sum war.

"They're all trapped, you know," Gatsby said quietly, his voice cutting through the ambient noise with alarming clarity. He didn't turn to look at me, but I knew he was speaking directly to my own trading philosophy.

"The retail crowd," he continued, gesturing vaguely with his teacup toward the glass walls of the server room. "They're watching the one-minute chart, praying for a breakout. They see a bullish engulfing candle and think the trend is shifting. But they aren't looking at the H4 resistance zone. They don't see the institutional liquidity resting just above this high."

I stepped closer to the dais, drawn by the gravitational pull of absolute market certainty. "You think it’s a sweep," I said. "A bull trap."

Gatsby finally turned to me. The legendary smile I had seen out by the pool—the one of eternal reassurance—was gone. In its place was the cold, unblinking focus of an apex predator scanning the order book.

"It’s not a thought, old sport. It’s a mathematical inevitability." He set the teacup down. His fingers hovered over his custom, mechanical execution keypad. "The tier-one banks need exit liquidity for their long positions. They’ll spike the price past the daily high, trigger the retail buy stops, and the moment the retail volume absorbs their sell orders... the floor will fall out."

He didn't offer his hand to shake. Instead, he pointed to the top of the current M15 candle.

"Fifty pips," Gatsby stated flatly. "Straight down. In exactly thirty seconds."

I stared at the screen. The price was inching upward, drawing dangerously close to the psychological resistance level. The volume was accelerating. Outside on the lawns, a cheer went up from a group of traders glued to their iPads. They were buying the breakout. They were providing the liquidity.

"Ten seconds," Gatsby murmured.

The price pierced the resistance line. A massive, bullish green candle began to print.

"Execution," he said softly, and tapped a single key.

He didn't just place a standard lot. He dropped an institutional-sized market sell order directly into the teeth of the bullish spike.

For a fraction of a second, the market seemed to hold its breath. And then, the algorithm took over. The banks dumped their positions, utilizing the massive retail buy volume to fill their shorts. The chart violently reversed. The green candle evaporated, immediately swallowed by a catastrophic, engulfing red candle that tore through the support levels like tissue paper.

Ten pips. Twenty pips. Forty pips.

The screams of liquidated accounts echoed faintly through the glass from the party outside.

At exactly fifty pips, Gatsby’s take-profit order triggered. A subtle, satisfying chime rang out from the terminal, and his floating equity instantly realized a staggering, multi-million-dollar profit.

Gatsby turned away from the screen, his face completely devoid of adrenaline or greed. It was just another day at the office. He picked up his tea and finally extended his free hand toward me.

"I prefer to execute on the M15," he said, the warm, reassuring smile returning to his face as if he hadn't just orchestrated a localized flash crash. "I'm James Gatz, old sport. But the market makers... they call me Gatsby. I hear you trade with IC Markets. Good choice. True ECN is the only way to survive the slippage."

Before I could even process the sheer magnitude of the trade I had just witnessed, a butler materialized silently at his elbow.

"Chicago is on the encrypted line, sir," the butler murmured. "Mr. Wolfsheim is asking about the latency on the London servers."
