Logged samples destroying favourite myths is the most useful thing a journal does. When I went through about 450 trades, the myth that went first was my pet setup. I loved it, it felt like my best one, and its average was -0.04R against +0.12R for the dull pullback I'd almost dropped.
Your point on tickets after the daily cap being garbage is in my data too. Trades beyond number 12 in a day averaged -0.3R across 31 trades. At 0.5 lots and 8 pip stops, each risks about 40 dollars, so those extra tickets cost around 370 dollars. Making the platform enforce the cap would have saved it, and I've since put a script on the terminal that blocks new orders after 12.
The ultra-short holds as a noise tax is a fair way to describe those one or two minute scalps. With a spread of 0.6 pips and an average win of 3 pips, the cost is 20 percent of the gross, and those trades also had the worst slippage.
Sleep showing up is one I'd call boring but real. Fewer than six hours cost me about 0.2R per trade in my sample.
How do you handle changing the rules once the data says so, one change at a time or several together? I try one a month so I can see the effect, but it's slow. And at what sample size do you demote a pet setup?
