After a break, price often returns to test the broken level. The retest is a common entry for scalpers, since it offers a better price and a clear invalidation point.
The catch is that many breaks never retest. Strong moves run, leaving anyone waiting for a pullback behind. The setup works best in moderate conditions and fails in the strongest ones.
A practical question is how deep the retest goes and how long it takes. On a one-minute chart, a retest might come within a few bars, or never. Setting a time limit helps: if no pullback occurs within a set period, forget the trade.
Another approach is accepting partial entries, taking a half position at the break and adding at the retest if it occurs. That reduces the regret in either case.
Tracking how often retests occur for a specific pair and session shows the real frequency, which is often lower than assumed.
How often does a retest actually appear in the setups traded, and how is the missed move handled?
