Prop-style rules that quietly punish scalpers

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Scalping is rarely banned by name. The rulebook does the job without saying the word, through three clauses that look harmless until a fast strategy runs into them.

Minimum hold time: trades closed in under, say, 60 seconds may be excluded from profit or flagged as a breach. A 2-pip target taken in 30 seconds can be erased from the count even though the fill was real.

News-window bans: no opening or closing a position within a couple of minutes either side of a high-impact release. Some firms void profit made inside the window, others treat it as a breach. Those are very different outcomes, so the wording matters.

Consistency rules: no single day may exceed a set share of total profit. Example with a 30 percent cap: total profit of 3,000 and a best day of 1,200 is 40 percent. The cap allows 900, so the payout can be blocked even though every trade followed every other rule. Scalpers get lumpy volatility days more often than they get smooth ones, so this clause bites hardest on exactly this style.

Read what happens on a violation (warning, voided profit, or closed account) and get answers on ambiguous wording in writing, since support replies in chat are not the contract.

Which rule has cost scalpers more in practice, the hold timer or the consistency cap, and has anyone had a written clarification actually honoured at payout?
