Entering on candle close versus entering intrabar

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Waiting for a candle to close before entering confirms the signal, but it costs time and price. Entering intrabar gets a better price but risks acting on a signal that disappears before the bar ends.

On a one-minute chart, the close wait is at most sixty seconds, but that is often enough for the entry to be worse by a pip or more. Intrabar entries avoid the delay and expose the trade to false signals.

The balance depends on the strategy. Breakouts often benefit from fast entry, since confirmation arrives with a worse price. Reversal signals often need the close to confirm the rejection.

Testing both on the same data shows the trade-off. The win rate may increase with close confirmation, but the average win may shrink.

Some systems use a hybrid, entering intrabar only when conditions such as a strong tick rate are met, and otherwise waiting for the close.

Which approach is used for entries, and how did the test compare the two?
