"I need thirty seconds at the core!" Elias shouted over the gunfire, pulling a heavy tungsten-carbide spike from his tactical vest.

"You have ten!" Gideon roared back, suppressing the pillar with a sustained burst of fire, completely ignoring the rounds ricocheting off his own armor. The tactical chief was an immovable object, drawing every ounce of the enemy's attention.

Elias broke cover. He sprinted the final twenty feet across the freezing floor, sliding on his knees to the base of the white ceramic obelisk. The cold radiating from the machine burned his exposed skin, a deep, biting ache that threatened to paralyze his fingers.

The BIS operatives stopped shooting. Gideon, bleeding heavily from his side, lowered his carbine slightly, realizing he was outflanked and hopelessly outgunned.

Vanger stepped out of the elevator, looking at the dead operatives on the floor, then at Elias, who was kneeling at the base of Prometheus with a spike in his hand.

"You must be the new Grand Master," Vanger said, a dry, patronizing smile touching his lips. "I expected an architect. I didn't expect a vandal crawling through the plumbing."

Elias didn't stand up. He kept his hand firmly on the tungsten spike. "I'm the margin call, Vanger. Turn it off."

"We preserve order!" Vanger snapped, his aristocratic composure cracking. "Your Templar ledger, your base-12 geometry—it is an obsolete hallucination. Value is not dictated by math. Value is dictated by power. And we have the power to create infinite liquidity. Step away from the machine, Elias. Hand over the Genesis Node, and I will allow you to rot in a black site instead of executing you on this floor."

Elias looked at Vanger. He looked at the six assault rifles pointed at Gideon’s chest. He looked at the pristine, white ceramic casing of the ultimate financial supercomputer.

Alistair had built a floor. De Molay had tried to build a bomb.

But Gideon had not spent his life relying on silicon and batteries. He relied on spatial geometry, muscle memory, and brute, unadulterated kinetic force.
